Warren Township, Gurnee partner on program
Warren Township and the Village of Gurnee are partners in a program designed to help police locate at-risk children and adults with special needs can get lost.
Care Trak technology uses radio telemetry to find the missing person wearing the bracelet specially equipped monitoring. Officials say the missing person can be found in as little as 30 minutes.
"This helps our police service is much more efficient, and quickly find someone to spare the family and many injuries," Mayor Kristina Kovarik said at a news conference Thursday.
Buffalo Grove, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, McHenry, are among the more suburban area who use the program.
The program is designed for children and adults with special needs such as autism, Down syndrome, Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and would be unable to communicate their name or location in case of loss.
Care Trak is open to all Warren Township residents who need care 24 hours a day and can provide the signature of a doctor. Residents can call the Association Warren Special Recreation for information on buying a kit Care Trak transmitter.
Warren Township Care Trak program costs $ 10 000 to 10 transmitters, receiver and two sets of police certification and training.
Six transmitters are available for purchase by residents of townships and four are used by police officers for training.
Currently, 12 police officers are trained for the program. More transmitters available depending on demand.
The individual cost for a transmitter kit is $ 246. It includes the transmitter strap, case, battery and tools replacement battery.Financial assistance is also available for anyone who needs to compensate for the price of the kit transmitter, officials said.
"The cost is minimal for the return. You can not put a price on the life of a loved one, if they lose, "Warren Township Supervisor Suzanne Simpson said.
The scope of the monitoring system is 1 mile on the ground and five miles in the air.
