40 militants killed, security forces in control of key positions

Peshawar—The security forces led by the Pak Army continued operation against the alleged terrorists and gained control of the key positions on the hilly terrain in the Kurram agency Wednesday.

The military sources confirmed that during the two days surgery, the troops mowed down over 40 miscreants challenging the writ of the government amid reports that more the 4000 inhabitants of the troubled region have moved towards the safer places and the migration was still going on.

On the other hand the Afghan terrorists once again resorted to naked aggression and stormed a village in Nusrat Darra area of Upper Dir Wednesday wee hours destroying a mosque and a couple of schools besides killing a member of the local peace committee. However, retaliatory fire from the security forces and the locals reportedly resulted in killing of as many as 10 trouble makers from across the border.

Information from the Kurram agency said security forces backed by fighters and helicopter gunships struck hard at militant positions especially on the tops of the hills about 15 km southeast of Sadda where there reports on the presence of many insurgent hideouts belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Reports indicate forces, also using tanks and heavy artillery strikes on militant positions in Masuzai, Ali Sherzai and areas in central Kurram Zemusht and consolidated their positions. The forces, as the reports say, gained control of Dunbakai, Gawati and Manato areas of Zemusht without resistance while the troops were advancing towards Sankroba and Kandolai areas.

“The forces with the help of artillery and gunship helicopters, struck hard on the militants hide outs in various area of Ali Sherzai and inflicted losses on the militants and are in the process of clearing the region from the miscreants at the earliest”. Official sources said.
